I would like to be able to say something directly to a single player rather than broadcast it to all players, is there anyway to achieve this?
Yes, you can use /whipser "player name" Your message in the chat to whisper to someone.
I’d suggest you try the “autocomplete whispers” module which adds a nice interface letting you select the player from a popup.
