Hey there. Im a DM of 5-6 years in 5e and a few other systems. Currently I’m enjoying running Tales of the Valiant - a 5e clone created by the venerable Kobold Press team (it is extremely similar to 5e, enough that if you know 5e, you know Tales of the Valiant). If you’re wondering - no, you don’t have to pay for any books about ToV or anything like that. Everything is provided by the DM. I tend to run homebrew-heavy, story-driven campaigns with a lot of customization and this one is no different. If all that sounds like something you might be interested in, then please read on below:
-The Pitch: a magical school campaign taking place in New York City in 1983, with influences from The Unsleeping City, Chronicles of Narnia, The Magicians, and more.
-The nature of this game: This game will be heavily homebrewed. Custom subclasses, races, weapons, items, etc. Magic works entirely different in this world and we sure as hell are not in Faerun.
-My DMing style: I’m mostly a story-driven DM. That means unlike some DMs, I have a plot that I will try to hook your characters into that will drive the action of the campaign. This is basically the opposite of the “the dice tell the story” style DMs. In regards to combat, I try to make things as challenging as I can without creating a situation where your characters are constantly dying (no “meatgrinder” campaigns from me, thanks).
-About MinMaxing: Try to keep min-maxing to a minimum. I don’t mind if you create a powerful character, but please do not sacrifice roleplay, backstory, character complexity, or most especially character integration into the homebrew setting for the sake of having the strongest build.
-Caveats:
.restricted classes, races, and subclasses (full casters only, no multiclassing, only custom races)
.custom magic system
.custom school/study system
.custom spells and schools of magic
.game will be run in Tales of the Valiant as opposed to 5e. This is a 5e clone from Kobold Press. It is similar enough that if you know 5e you shouldn’t have to learn very much at all.
.Time and day is TBD and will be determined by the schedules of those who are interested.
Oh, one last thing - please only apply if:
