It’s Moving Day!
Update: The migration of all users to the new servers is now complete, and your game URLs have been returned to the .eu.forge-vtt.com domain. Thank you all for your patience and understanding!.
In March, we released new European servers using our improved infrastructure design for users to opt into. These servers were intended to perform faster, and provide a smoother experience to the users. By all accounts, they have succeeded.
As a result of this success, we have begun taking steps toward transitioning all European games/servers to this new configuration. Users with a sharp eye may have noticed that we have marked the new European server configuration as the default and disabled the old one. We will be concluding this transition by moving all European games/servers to the new servers.
On 2022-05-02T22:00:00Z, we will begin moving all users from the old European servers to the new one. While moving every user to the new region can take many hours, and the work may span a couple of days, we expect this to have minimal impact on any games that are happening during the maintenance period. World and game data will remain unaffected.
If a user’s game is active, they will not be moved until at least 6 hours of inactivity on their account, and we have taken steps to ensure that each user will only have a few seconds of downtime as we move their account.
Users on the old European servers may avoid disruption during this maintenance period by moving to the new European servers ahead of time. You may do so by navigating to your My Account page, and selecting the “Change Region” button. From there, select the “Europe” server region, and select the “Set server selection” button. Please be advised that your games will be temporarily inaccessible for a few seconds while they are migrated.
Impact on Game URLs
The biggest impact of the move will likely be on your game’s URLs. After moving to the new servers, you will notice that your game’s URL would have changed from mygame.eu.forge-vtt.com to mygame.eu2.forge-vtt.com. Rest assured that this is only temporary and once every account has been moved to the new servers, all games will switch to the eu.forge-vtt.com domain.
Also note that all your existing game links will still function without issue, as we will automatically redirect from the old URLs to new ones. There is no need to update bookmarks.
