Is there a way to magnify an area (say around the cursor) rather than using zoom+pan? Ideally, I’d like to be able to lock my background but still be able to get a close-up of various points on it.

Hmm, it might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but Windows Magnifier sounds close to what you’re describing. It can run outside of Foundry as well.
