Latest Foundry Release Performance - Firefox

This is more a bug report / attempt at making a ticket than reaching out for help.

New major version 14 release seems to have introduced / worsened major performance problems with the Firefox browser.

I have been playing the Mythspeaker and Abomination Vault modules and since Version 14 “frame-rate” (For lack of a better term) has been abysmal. Moving the map, zooming in or out, and especially the dice rolling can be like watching a slide show and missing “frames.”

Steps I’ve taken to alleviate:
Ensured hardware acceleration is on.
Tried turning it off to see if it helps (It does not)
Ensured that Firefox is not running in Efficiency mode
Asked the DM to clear the chat log (Minor, temporary, increase in performance but still really bad)
Turned visual dice (This gets rid of the problem of dice rolling causing even worse performance but doesn’t really fix anything)
Turned off all other running applications except Discord (Since we use that for voice)
Updated drivers for all hardware
Running it on a different (Albeit slower) Windows machine with a fresh install of Windows.
Running it on Linux instead of Windows.

Base System Specs
AMD 9800x3d
64GB memory
AMD 7900XT Graphics card
Windows 11 or Linux Kubuntu

I doubt it is the computer’s fault. I hope I’ve tried enough troubleshooting before submitting this.

Yes, chromium runs fine. I’m not surprised as this would be the browser I’d focus on since it is the vast majority of the market. I have, grudgingly, switched to Chrome in the meantime but it would be great if we could get some Firefox optimization.

Hey there,

It seems you’ve already covered a lot of recommended troubleshooting steps in this scenario, kudos!
There are few other things I’d like to know in this station, which are:

  • Are you having these performance issues with one game world in particular?
  • Are you having these issues with just the PF2e game system?
  • Are you running on latest stable build of Firefox without any extensions?

Hi, sorry for the delay on responses here.

  • Are you having these performance issues with one game world in particular?
  • Two game worlds: Mythbuilder and Abomination Vaults.
  • Are you having these issues with just the PF2e game system?
  • I only play the PF2e System, so that’s all I can speak to.
  • Are you running on latest stable build of Firefox without any extensions?
  • Yes, I keep Firefox up to date. The only extension is uBlockOrigin and the issue persists with it disabled as well.

Hi again.

Commonly Chrome has been more reliable performance-wise than Firefox, but it should still work.
Now, I haven’t been able to reproduce this issue with Firefox on a blank new world with significantly weaker laptop running on Debian 13, which leads me to wonder if Mythbuilder and Abomination Vaults are too big for Firefox to handle?

Can you please check and confirm for me:

  • What is the size of those two worlds?
  • Do you have this issue with a blank new world as well?

Additionally, despite having hardware acceleration enabled it’s sometimes worth going through the ‘On > Off > On’ cycle once, please try this for me:

  1. Disable Hardware Acceleration and exit Firefox.
  2. Open Firefox and type in in address bar “about:config” , set "layers.acceleration.force-enabled " to true
  3. Fully close and re-launch Firefox.

Let me know if this produces any different results.
