Brief Description of the game/setting/premise: Under the grace of the gods it is the year 1499 DR. Recently a great and powerful vampire lord, by whose will the sword coast has been plagued with undead, has been slain ushering a period of relative peace and safety. Wonderful news for all but your ilk, adventurers, mercenaries, and all who practice violence for coin. With the lessened threat more parties have come into competition seeking work, some even turning to simple banditry.
Your desperation has led you as with many others to the city of Waterdeep, and within the entrance to a seemingly endless wellspring of gold and magic relics. The only thing stopping you being a neigh all powerful wizard whos primary occupation is creatively torturing adventurers to death. A small problem in the face of enough wealth to retire.
Each of you have encountered an enticing site after a long day’s march. An encampment built out the back of a wagon, fire pit roaring and atop it sits a pot of spiced meat and beans. The old man tending to it offers you The delirium one experiences during a good meal after exertion blurs the time and without realizing it the trickle of individuals has become a whole group. Finishing his meal the old man asks each of you about yourselves.
The dungeon of the mad mage is primarily focused around the dungeon crawl and events happening within the city of Waterdeep but being the largest trade city in the region backstory related happenings can still be relevant for those with no connection to the city. Balancing will not be merciful, and I will be rolling openly and not fudging rolls. Foes of high intelligence will understand the difference between a downed vs dead pc.
This will be using the forgotten realms lore and pantheon.
