Description: Fifteen years ago, Drakkenheim was destroyed by an eldritch storm of falling stars. Now the city is a dismal urban wasteland contaminated by otherworldly magic and haunted by hideous monsters. Explore ruined urban locations, inspired by dark fantasy and cosmic horror! Personal quests, tantalizing rumors and lightweight urban exploration mechanics allow player characters to experience the ruins in a nonlinear and open-ended fashion
Dungeons of Drakkenheim is an open sandbox adventure that has you explore the ruined city and interact with the 5 factions that are fighting for control of it. Drakkenheim’s fate can be directly influenced by you as you mingle with the factions and uncover the plots of each of the factions. The city itself is surrounded by a thick Haze that contaminates, and eventually mutates, anything that enters it, making Long Resting impossible within the city limits. Part of the danger is not only surviving while exploring the ruins, but getting in and out before you succumb to the contamination and turn into a horrific monster. No one comes to Drakkenheim without a purpose. In this adventure, you have a personal quest that motivates you to risk your life within the corrupted streets. If you can complete your quest, you are rewarded with a feat of your choice.
I’ve played the entirety of DoD as a player and ran it before myself and it’s by far one of my favorite modules because of how different each play through truly can be. For this adventure, we’ll stick to the 2024 rules, the species options found in Monsters of the Multiverse, and any player content found in Dungeons of Drakkenheim and Sebastian Crowe’s Guide to Drakkenheim (a supplement for the setting that includes a new class and subclasses themed for the setting).
